Taylor Swift recently released her 12th studio album, “The Life Of A Showgirl”, with twelve tracks, all written by the singer. However, one track that stood out to many was “Wood”, which caught attention for its unexpectedly risqué lyrics.
Earlier this week, the singer-songwriter appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” to talk about her new album and break down each track. After listening to a snippet of “Wood”, host Jimmy Fallon asked Taylor how the song came about, wondering if she came up with the melody first. However, the 36-year-old explained that she had an idea for a throwback, timeless-sounding song with lyrics based on superstitions, like knocking on wood.

However, the singer would soon start giggling as she continued talking about the track. For those who haven’t heard the song, some of the lyrics, particularly the post-chorus, had a double entendre, with Taylor seemingly describing her fiancé Travis Kelce’s “manhood”. Taylor admitted that the songmaking process “really started out in a very innocent place”, but joked that she didn’t know how the lyrics ended up being so innuendo-laden.
Perhaps because “Wood” is allegedly about her soon-to-be husband, Taylor said she loves the song. Many fans also shared the same sentiment and were entertained by the star’s boost of confidence. However, in a separate interview, Taylor has expressed thoughts on the criticism she received for her new album. Talking to Zane Lowe for Apple Music, the vocalist said, “I have a lot of respect for people’s subjective opinions on art. I’m not the art police. Everybody is allowed to feel exactly how they want.”

She also notes that she’s okay with any comments about her album, saying, “I welcome the chaos. The rule of show business is: if it’s the first week of my album release and you are saying either my name or my album title, you’re helping.” However, Taylor never forgot to show love to her fans, saying, “I don’t even know how to thank them for what they’ve done this week and for how much they’ve loved this music and how they’ve just immediately gotten it.”
While there are mixed reviews about the new album, Taylor has said that she’s happy and proud of her work – and we think that’s all that matters. Check out her interview with Jimmy Fallon and Zane Lowe below:
