In this generation, it’s not uncommon to hear about someone marrying into the family because of their wealth. One cannot deny how important finance is nowadays, which is why some would rather marry for money than for love.
After accepting her boyfriend’s proposal earlier this year, rumours started to surface, claiming that Taiwanese internet celebrity, Lolita Lee (蘿莉塔), is marrying her boyfriend for money. However, the couple has yet to register their marriage even though Lolita is 5 months pregnant. When asked about the reason behind the delayed registration, the beauty responded by revealing that her in-laws insisted on a prenuptial agreement.
During a talk show, Lolita mentioned the prenuptial agreement she was forced to sign upon her boyfriend’s family’s request. The contract stated that the couple’s properties must be separated and that both parties will not be entitled to the other’s earnings should they decide to part ways. “He (the boyfriend) did mention that his family is worried that I would take (his) money and steal his properties,” she shared.
The internet celebrity said that her boyfriend revealed that his family is well-off, but claimed it didn’t concern him. As she hadn’t met any of her boyfriend’s family members, Lolita was unclear about his background. When her in-laws wanted her to sign a premarital contract, she said she would do so under one condition.
Lolita’s condition was that an infidelity clause be added to the contract. This clause applies to both parties, the husband and the wife. Should either of them get caught in an affair, a financial penalty of 3 million TWD (446K MYR) is required to be paid to the other party.
Since cheating scandals are quite common these days, the soon-to-be mom wanted some assurance. Having said that, the prenup issue has definitely left a sour taste with Lolita. “I don’t even feel like getting married right now. All this talk about terms and conditions feels very transactional, it’s as though we’re discussing a business,” she added.
Let’s hope the couple can figure out their predicament, especially since a baby is about to enter the picture.
