Syed Saddiq finally walks free after the Federal Court upheld his acquittal. The Muar MP is acquitted on charges of criminal breach of trust (CBT), dishonest misappropriation of property and money laundering involving funds linked to his party, Bersatu Youth.
Earlier today (Monday, 13th July 2026), a three-member bench chaired by Court of Appeal president Datuk Seri Abu Bakar Jais dismissed the prosecution’s final appeal to reinstate Syed Saddiq’s conviction and sentence. Back in June 2025, the Court of Appeal acquitted the politician, whose full name is Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, of all his charges, setting aside his seven-year prison sentence, RM10 million fine and caning.

While the Attorney General’s Chambers filed an appeal shortly after the acquittal to reinstate the conviction and sentence, the court upheld the 2025 decision in a 2-1 majority. The court held that the prosecution’s final appeal lacked merit and the prosecution had failed to prove the essential elements of the offences. The ruling concludes the years-long legal battle.
Speaking to the media after his acquittal, Syed Saddiq expressed gratitude over the decision, adding that the ordeal has reinforced his belief that the truth and justice will ultimately prevail. The attention also shifted to the politician’s personal life, particularly his marriage plans with fiancée Bella Astillah. The couple announced their engagement in March of this year, but kept mum on their wedding details out of respect for Syed Saddiq’s legal battle.

However, the 33-year-old alluded that the two will be tying the knot before the year ends. Syed Saddiq also said that his parents have already given the green light for him to proceed with his wedding plans. Bella Astillah was also present at court earlier today alongside Syed Saddiq’s family. The actress expressed relief over the court’s decision, adding that she had always believed in his innocence.
While it’s still too early to know what Syed Saddiq and Bella Astillah have planned for their wedding, we hope everything goes smoothly for the couple. We also wish all the best for Syed Saddiq’s political career, now that his corruption case has concluded.
