In the entertainment industry, managers are considered guardians responsible for celebrities’ schedules and daily needs. However, not all managers are good, and as Super Junior (슈퍼주니어) member Kyuhyun (규현) reveals, some can even break the law.
In a recent episode of Netflix’s “Three Idiots In Kenya”, the singer shared about his experiences with some terrible ex-managers. Kyuhyun first recalled an ex-manager who tried to evade a toll and fool a tollgate staff using a teddy bear. He explained that, at the Namsan tunnel tollgate, cars with three or more passengers can pass without paying.
However, during this incident, only the manager and a member were in the car. The singer said that the manager tried to drive through the toll, but was stopped. The tollgate staff then asked them to roll down the window for verification. However, after seeing the teddy bear in the back seat, the tollgate staff got angry at the manager.
Kyuhyun also exposed another ex-manager for stealing from the group. He said that Yesung caught the manager hiding something in their dorm’s shoe cabinet, later discovering that the box was filled with items the members had lost. Kyuhyun said the manager was eventually fired, but later became the manager of another singer.
Most shockingly, one ex-manager even started a dangerous police chase with Kyuhyun in the car. The singer said this manager made an illegal U-turn, prompting a police car to follow them. The manager then sped the car before revealing that his license was suspended. He also drove the car in the opposite direction of traffic.
The car chase ended when a motorcyclist blocked the car after seeing the police. However, the manager then asked Kyuhyun to switch seats with him so the idol could take responsibility for driving recklessly. The vocalist recalled the manager screaming for help as the police took him away.
While Kyuhyun recalled these events with amusement, netizens expressed sympathy for Super Junior for having irresponsible managers. Many also criticised SM Entertainment for the lack of background checks during the hiring process. Watch the idol’s recollection below:
