Many fans who’ve seen a Joker Xue (薛之谦) concert can tell you that the Chinese singer-songwriter can be unpredictable on stage. After making headlines for being caught fawning over a pretty female fan, Joker recently went viral for another on-stage moment when he unexpectedly licked his backup dancer’s sweat.
The viral incident happened during Joker’s concert in Zhenjiang, China when the star took a break from performing to talk to fans. During the session, he also interacted with a backup dancer who was visibly sweaty after a performance. It is believed that Joker spoke about the backup dancer’s dedication to the performance and even touched his sweat to prove his point. However, the vocalist shocked everyone at the concert venue when he suddenly licked the dancer’s sweat from his fingers.
The unexpected action took everyone, even the dancer, by surprise but Joker merely laughed it off. The singer was then heard jokingly saying, “It’s (the sweat) so sour”. The male dancer also made a disgusted face as a reaction to Joker but didn’t seem bothered by the star. However, the incident was then posted on Chinese social media, garnering mixed reactions from netizens.
Some netizens were unsurprisingly taken back by Joker licking the sweat of his dancer, even calling the public figure disgusting for his actions. However, some fans defended the star, saying that the star was likely trying to incorporate Zhenjiang’s speciality, vinegar, into his talk sessions. Others say he’s known for these types of jokes and every fan at the concert understood him clearly. Nevertheless, some said that Joker went too far with the bit, even saying it brought a bad image to himself and the city.
