Stage mishaps are not uncommon during a concert. However, it’s rare to see a singer stop a performance when they realise they might be in slight danger – but that’s precisely what singer Penny Tai (戴佩妮) did.

The Malaysian-born star recently performed at the Taipei Arena in Taiwan as part of her new tour. Just before the performance of her song “Farce”, the singer suddenly called for a stop. As it turns out, Penny realised that she was standing too close to the edge of the stage and was close to falling. In addition, the white curtain behind her nearly hit her, making the singer feel unsafe, so she started calling out for the stage director.

While the situation sounded scary, fans at the concert venue found the actual scene hilarious because of Penny’s reaction. In a video of the moment, the singer was laughing in embarrassment over the problem. She even asked if she could stand on the other side of the curtain instead, joking that the inside of the stage was more beautiful. After solving the issue, the singer apologised to fans and restarted her song.

Fans have since reacted to the video, laughing at Penny’s sense of humour. Many even said that the singer has a knack for comedic skits. Some also joked that concert-goers got a great deal with their tickets, getting incredible music and a good laugh in one show. Funnily, some fans pointed out that Penny’s Malaysian accent popped out when she started yelling out for her staff member.

Thankfully, Penny wasn’t in any harm during her performance. However, the concert did include some other challenging stunts that had fans on the edge of their seats. According to reports, the show starts with the 46-year-old singer hanging onto a wire and “dropping” into the hall from a height of 12 meters. The concert organiser even increased the insurance coverage to nearly TW$100 million (approximately RM13 million) because of all the stunts.

Penny’s reaction definitely eased the situation and made it less scary for everyone. However, we hope she’ll be more careful in her future performances.
