One of the highlights of K-pop concerts is the MENT — the spoken segments during the show where idols interact with the audience. They share stories, respond to fan posters, or ask for opinions and recommendations, such as local food. It is also the moment when fans can get to know the idols’ personalities more closely.
SHINee (샤이니) member Key ( 키) is currently on his UNCANNY VALLEY tour in the United States, and there have already been plenty of memorable moments during the MENT sessions. At a recent show, the singer was left speechless after discovering that one audience member had brought along an ex to see him in concert. Here’s what happened:
Earlier this week, SHINee member Key performed a concert in Seattle, showcasing many of his solo hits. At one point during the show, he asked an audience member who she was with, to which she shouted, “MY EX-HUSBAND!” The room erupted in laughter, leaving the singer momentarily frozen and flabbergasted, unsure how to respond. After taking a moment to register what had happened, he composed himself before speaking.
“It’s my first time seeing something like this with my own eyes. I’ve seen this kind of situation on ‘Desperate Housewives’, but never thought it would happen in real life. This actually happens, okay. Thanks for coming, I hope you enjoy the show… and how can I say this? I support your relationship(?),” he said while trying so hard to hold in his laughter. He then admitted that he had no idea how to respond to the revelation before correcting himself that he respects the former couple’s relationship, as he does not know the full story.
The moment was captured on camera and quickly went viral, with fans largely amused by Key’s reaction. Many joked that the K-pop star could have a career in stand-up comedy, while others were surprised he referenced “Desperate Housewives”. Some praised the ex-couple for maintaining a healthy relationship after their divorce, noting that most people would not consider attending a concert with their former partner.
