Whenever a foreign star comes to Malaysia, local fans will always look forward to hearing them try to say something in our native languages. Before his first solo concert in Malaysia, South Korean rapper B.I (비아이) was interviewed by a local radio station where he dropped some smooth pick-up lines in Malay!

The radio station ERA recently released an interview with the 28-year-old star, a few days before his performance at Mega Star Arena on 30th June (Sunday). During the interview, B.I, whose real name is Kim Han Bin (김한빈), answered questions about his upcoming show and what his plans are when he comes back to Kuala Lumpur. However, one particular question from the interview went viral amongst local B.I fans.

In the video, the interviewer took the opportunity to teach B.I a few phrases in Malay to prepare him for his upcoming visit. However, out of the three phrases taught, two of them were some rather flirtatious pick-up lines. The first line that the idol learnt was “Kasi Hype Lagi (Hype it up)”, which seemed to be in line with his concert and tour name “HYPE UP”. On the other hand, the other two lines he learnt were “Abang datang balik (Older brother is coming back)” and “Sayang, jumpa nanti (See you soon, dear)”. It’s worth noting that “Abang” can have a romantic connotation in this context.

Many local IDs (B.I’s fanbase) have shared their reaction to the rapper saying the Malay lines. Some expressed shock over him saying the pick-up lines, while others praised B.I for his surprising fluency in Malay. However, some also jokingly questioned who in the ERA team decided on the line since it was rather flirty. Nevertheless, most of B.I’s Malaysian fans were happy to hear him speak in Malay and voiced excitement over his upcoming concert.

B.I will hold his first Malaysian solo concert at Mega Star Arena this weekend (30th June, Sunday) – and it seems like he has a lot prepared for his loving fans. Maybe he might even show off more of his Malay language skills during the night!
