By now, you’ve probably heard BLACKPINK (블랙핑크) Rosé’s (로제) record-breaking hit with Bruno Mars, “APT.”. The viral hit has spawned countless covers and parodies since its release – but this Bollywood-style cover from Sandaru Sathsara is the latest one to capture netizens’ attention.
The Sri Lankan content creator recently released his cover of “APT.” through his YouTube and social media accounts, garnering a lot of attention for being equally as addictive as the original. The content creator’s version of the song featured a Bollywood-style backtrack and his heavily accented singing of the English lyrics, creating a different vibe to the chart-topping hit. However, it’s still as fun as Rosé & Bruno Mars’ original collaboration.
Funnily enough, the music video contrasts the uplifting beat as it features Sandaru handwashing laundry in the backyard of a home. He also often appears with a stoic expression despite the cheerful lyrics. The Australian-based content creator has long created entertaining covers of popular songs, but his rendition of “APT.” became an instant hit amongst netizens. The cover now has over 1.4 million views on YouTube and over 7 million on TikTok.
Many netizens have reacted to the cover, showing fascination with this particular version of the track. Many even claimed that Sandaru’s version is better than the original by the K-pop idol and the American singer. Others suggested listening to the cover at different speeds for a more entertaining version. On the other hand, some netizens were also tickled by the music video, joking that the Sri Lankan native multitasks by doing laundry while filming a cover.
In the meantime, the actual “APT.” by Rosé & Bruno Mars has set new records in both South Korea and the United States. The official music video now has over 300 million views on YouTube and over 300 million streams on Spotify.
