It seems Red Velvet’s (레드벨벳) Wendy (웬디) has found herself a new home! After departing from SM Entertainment earlier this month, the singer announced she’s officially joining the start-up agency ASND Label.
If you didn’t know, Wendy announced her departure from her long-time agency, SM Entertainment, on 4th April 2025 (Friday), following the expiration of her exclusive contract. Since then, many fans have questioned whether the Red Velvet member will remain a free agent or join one of the many K-pop entertainment agencies. After weeks of speculation, fans finally got their answer.
Earlier today (25th April 2025), the newly-founded agency, ASND Label, announced that Wendy will join their artist roster. The company previously posted a hint about the new artist: a photo of a blue dragon fruit and blueberries. As Wendy’s signature colour in Red Velvet was blue, many speculated that the new artist might be the vocalist. Along with the announcement, ASND also launched Wendy’s official social media accounts and shared new profile photos.
Many fans have reacted to the news, expressing excitement over Wendy’s new journey. However, some were surprised to hear that the singer chose to sign with a start-up company rather than an established agency. For those curious, ASND Label was founded in January 2025 and currently manages the girl group Fromis_9 (프로미스나인) after the group’s contract with Pledis Entertainment expired on 31st December 2025.
Nevertheless, many hope that ASND Labels will be a better agency for Wendy. Upon her departure from SM Entertainment, many fans said it was due time for her to leave her long-time agency. Most Red Velvet fans believed Wendy didn’t have much opportunity to grow as a singer during her time in her previous company. The fans even pointed out instances where the company failed to promote her solo activities.
