Ziana Zain is one of Malaysia’s legendary singers. When she’s not performing, she’s mentoring aspiring artists, as the 56-year-old is currently serving as one of the judges for the “One In A Million” singing contest. In the latest episode, the veteran vocalist commented on a few of the contestants’ images, saying that they need to improve their appearances.
Speaking to reporters backstage, the singer further elaborated on her comments, saying that what makes an artist is not just having a good voice but also developing their personal image. However, some netizens don’t seem to agree with her opinion. Here’s the story:

“You need to have the whole package: talent and image. These two are very important if you want to make it in the industry. Talent is obviously the priority, but what I meant by image is how you present yourself as a performer and as an artist. What makes you stand out from the rest and attract your audience to you? I’ve stressed about this to the contestants as you saw earlier,” she said.
The “Puncak Kasih” songstress’s comments have since sparked debate among netizens. On one hand, especially among those who watched the interview, many agreed with Ziana Zain’s points, arguing that an artist must develop their own public persona to leave a lasting impression on fans. On the other hand, those who have only seen the recent broadcast of the show criticised the singer for her views, saying that looks aren’t everything and that she should only focus on judging the contestants based on their talents.
