People, especially younger generations, have participated in many TikTok trends no matter how ridiculous they may come across. However, some trends and challenges from the video-sharing app have baffled netizens so much that they’d wonder who even came up with these ideas.

Many in Malaysia have reacted negatively to the latest NPC (Non-playable character) trend but one user claimed that it has actually helped many TikTokers receive a lot of ‘Gifts’ from viewers, which can then be redeemed for money.

Yang complain ni gaji berapa? 😂 income dia ni sebulan paling busuk pun RM10,000++

HAHAHAHAHAHA aku xleh blah la. Bola Bola Bola Bola Bola. Sedapnya ice cream.

Yang send gift tu niat nak torture tp dalam masa sama mengkayakan owner 😂 pic.twitter.com/kjOMfZDIpf

Over the weekend, a Twitter user who goes by @ayspaces reposted a TikTok live stream footage of an unnamed content creator doing the NPC trend (in a very exaggerated manner) where one acts like a character in a video game interacting with the player(s). The more ‘Gifts’ the “NPC” receives, the more they will interact with the viewers.

The Twitter user seemingly defended these TikTokers for participating in the trend claiming that viewers are the ones making them richer. “Those who complained, what’s your salary? This person here is making at least RM10k+ monthly! The ones who sent the ‘Gifts’ to torture him are actually making him even richer,” they wrote.

The post sparked a debate among netizens with many saying they’d choose to have dignity rather than humiliating themselves on camera. Some likened the NPC trend to begging for money on the streets as the participants are willing to do anything, even degrading themselves for easy money.

While these content creators are being slammed for making fools out of themselves, there were also many who criticised the viewers for enjoying and contributing money to this questionable type of content. However, they were a few who see no harm in this trend and even are considering changing career paths if it guarantees good money.

Do you enjoy this type of content? Would you be willing to do ridiculous challenges for easy money?
