Yesterday (Wednesday, 9th October), a Facebook user named Ishaq Marazi posted photos of a Mercedes-Benz A200 belonging to Faris Azri, the founder of the clothing brand Choii. The post claimed that the vehicle was to be auctioned off under Maybank Butterworth, attracting many car enthusiasts interested in purchasing it.
Unfortunately for those potential buyers, there appeared to be a misunderstanding. Shortly after the Facebook post went viral, Faris Azri himself clarified that the car was still in his possession. Here’s the story:
Taking to TikTok, the entrepreneur addressed the rumours regarding his car being auctioned due to unpaid monthly instalments. “It was actually about to be auctioned off. What really happened is that this car is currently being paid for via auto-debit from my company’s account. Unfortunately, the account was blocked due to suspicious activity, which was actually just a money transfer from a job in Singapore. I didn’t answer the call from Maybank to verify the transaction,” he explained.
As a result, Maybank blocked the account, believing it was involved in money laundering. The businessman quickly appealed but was informed that the process would take about six months. During the first two months, he forgot about the auto-debit payment. “Since I never had to remind myself to pay the monthly instalment, it completely slipped my mind, so the payment didn’t go through. I received a call one day saying my car was being confiscated,” he elaborated.
Faris initially planned to retrieve his vehicle the day after it was confiscated but became too preoccupied with work. He eventually went to collect his Mercedes-Benz after discovering the viral Facebook post claiming it was to be auctioned off. “Thankfully, I got it back in time before anyone got their hands on it. Thank you to everyone for your concerns and support”.
This was not the first time the Choii founder had car trouble. As reported by Harian Metro and confirmed by Faris himself, he was recently remanded for 2 days for drifting on the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Highway in Georgetown, Penang. Let’s hope that the influencer won’t have any more issues involving cars in the future.
