(Video) Meet The Second Tallest Teenage Boy In Malaysia

While growing up, it’s common for parents to measure children’s heights from time to time to see how tall they’ve grown. That being said, sometimes sudden growth spurts can be very concerning and will attract a lot of attention.

16-year-old Muhamad Haziq Khairul Annuar became an internet sensation virtually overnight for his height after Tasek Gelugor MP (Member of Parliament) Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan recently posted a photo and video of them meeting at a Ramadan bazaar. It is believed that the boy is the second tallest teenager in Malaysia (for now).

The teenage boy from Teluk Bahang, Penang is said to be exactly 198 centimetres (cm) in height and will continue to grow even taller before he turns 21. However, it was not mentioned exactly how much taller he’ll grow but we can assume that his family will need to move to a new house with taller ceilings.

Speaking of family, his parents said that they first noticed that their son had an unusual height at age 5 compared to his friends. It was only after the couple brought him in for a medical checkup last year did they discover that he is actually suffering from Marfan Syndrome (a rare genetic condition that affects connective tissue, which provides support for the body and organs).

While being tall has its advantages, it is understood that Haziq has his fair share of obstacles that an average Joe wouldn’t concern himself with. In this teenager’s case, he often has difficulty getting into vehicles and public transportation. While at home, his family usually avoid using the ceiling fans for fear that he might injure himself by accident.

“We have to place special orders for his clothes and shoes that have to be specially made for him,” the mother said. Due to his rare condition, the secondary school student has suffered minor heart issues and gets tired easily. For your information, Haziq is not alone in being the tallest in the country. Here are some of the tallest people in Malaysia as recorded in the Malaysian Book of Records:

  1. Mohd Azli Hisyam Abdul Ghafar – Tallest Man in Malaysia, 2013 (211cm)
  2. Sheikh Akmal – Tallest Teenager in Malaysia, 2012 (204cm)
  3. Nur Azleen Jamaluddin – Tallest woman in Malaysia, 2004 (194cm)
