Despite having a law against those who abuse or cause mistreatment towards animals, animal cruelty is still on the rise, be it in Malaysia or any other country around the world. Fortunately, attackers in a recent animal-abusing case were caught successfully before it escalated to involving more innocent lives.

The police have caught a 39-year-old mechanic from Sabah after his actions of severely beating up a dog went viral on social media recently. According to Harian Metro, the suspect was arrested at a workshop at Kampung Patikang on Tuesday (5th November) and is being held for investigation at the Keningau District Police Headquarters.

As seen in the screenshots above, the suspect can be seen senselessly beating up a dog with a steel rod. The video quickly went viral on multiple social media platforms, which caused outrage among netizens. The post first showed the black dog lying calmly and cleaning itself before being approached by the man, with laughter erupting from the suspect’s colleague, who was recording the video.

The mechanic can be seen holding the rod behind his back, slowly creeping up behind the dog before severely beating the dog inhumanely on its head several times. After a few blows to the dog’s head, which caused it to be unconscious, the canine is dragged away by the man to another side of the workshop, where he continues beating it a few times again.

According to the Chief Police of the Keningau District, Superintendent Yampil Garai, an employee from the Department of Veterinary Services, Keningau, reported the incident. “We have successfully arrested the suspect, and after further investigations, the man confessed to being the individual that abused and killed the canine. The video was said to have been recorded by the suspect’s colleague,” he said. It was also reported that the suspect will be remanded till 9th November, and the case will be investigated under Penal Code Section 428 of Animal Torture and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988.
