The Netflix series “Squid Game 2 (오징어 게임 2)” has been trending online ever since its release on the streaming platform. While the show has received mixed reviews, many are still tuning in to see the continuation of the ever-popular South Korean show.

Recently, TikTok user @/fynryna, who was watching the show, spotted a familiar flag in the background. As shown in her video, the Malaysian flag appeared in the background during a scene in the fourth episode where the characters discussed the game’s rules. Albeit a small flag, the Jalur Gemilang was noticeable as it appeared behind actor Park Sung-Hoon (박성훈).

Many local netizens have since reacted to the video, showing amusement over the eagle-eyed Malaysian’s discovery. Most were undeniably proud that the Jalur Gemilang made a “cameo” in the award-winning show, even if it was a small flag among many others. However, others were impressed that the TikTok user could spot the Malaysian flag, with some saying they never noticed it despite completing the series.

The comment section also brought up how, in the same episode, the characters played a game similar to the Malaysian game Batu Seremban. However, the game gonggi (공기) is an actual traditional Korean game and merely bears similarity to its Malaysian counterpart. The show also featured a game of spinning top, which is known locally as gasing – but, like gonggi, it’s also a game traditionally played in South Korea.

Perhaps many people will rewatch “Squid Game 2” to search for small details like the Malaysian flag – but what are your thoughts on this? Did you notice the Jalur Gemilang on your first watch?
