Lately, there have been many issues circulating the net regarding outsiders’ perspectives towards Malaysia. For instance, the couple who claimed KL to be a US wannabe gained numerous reactions from local netizens. Be it a positive or a negative issue, our people definitely have feedback to give.

A video went viral recently regarding a man in China using a Malaysian flag to clean a motorcycle. @/Tbheng, a Malaysian student from Sabah who is currently studying in China, posted the video on his TikTok but has since been deleted. However, the video has been shared on many other social media accounts, including the video by @/update11111 on X (formerly known as Twitter), which gained over 896.9 thousand views (at the time of writing).

At the beginning of the video, the man can be seen holding the Jalur Gemilang, where he then proceeded to fold the flag, attempting to use it as a rag to clean his motorcycle. Several other people can be seen washing their motorcycles as well, at the unrevealed location in China.

Malaysian netizens were fuming in the comment section, angered by the man’s actions. They even commented that legal actions should be taken against the individual for carrying out such an act. Some also stated that acts like this should only be repaid in similar actions, with China’s flag instead. Another user commented that videos like these are unnecessary posts that would rile up hatred in Malaysians among each other.

Following the viral video, @/Tbheng posted another follow-up post explaining the situation, which was also taken down from his account. He stated that he wasn’t the individual seen in the video; instead, he shot it to report the man to his school in China. He also said that he told the individual to stop and return the flag and the school has taken action against the individual by seizing his motorcycle.
