American YouTuber-influencer IShowSpeed, simply known as Speed, is still currently on his Southeast Asia Tour – broadcasting his travels live on his YouTube channel. Malaysians were left disappointed after learning that the 19-year-old was chased down by a sea of fans during his visit to Suria KLCC and Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. It’s even gotten to the point where Uncle Roger restaurant had to close down its shutter doors to keep excited fans from entering the premises to meet the internet star.
One would assume he would not visit Malaysia anymore after the unpleasant chaotic experience but surprisingly, Speed decided to give our country another chance as he stopped by Johor over the weekend. Not only that, he also had the rare opportunity to meet a royal family member there. Here’s what happened:
During his latest livestream, Speed announced that he’ll be visiting the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Johor to briefly watch the Super League match between Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) and Kelantan Darul Naim (KDN FC). “We’re going to meet the [Crown Prince of Johor], watch the match before driving to Singapore!” he said in his broadcast. After watching the football tournament, the influencer, wearing a JDT jersey, was seen meeting with His Royal Highness Tunku Ismail ibni Sultan Ibrahim in a lounge area of the stadium.
The two greeted each other in a very casual manner. During their conversation, the Prince had his family on video call as they were fans of the American streamer. The teenage celeb shared his travel experiences around Southeast Asia with the Crown Prince and admitted that he’s not ready to go back home to the United States until he’s done with the tour.
Sadly, his trip in Malaysia this time around was short so he hasn’t gotten the opportunity to fully experience the culture our country has to offer, especially after a somewhat disastrous KL visit. After the latest broadcast went viral, Malaysians were mostly surprised by Speed and Tunku Ismail’s sudden meet-up. Some were impressed that the YouTuber was able to meet the Johor Prince while others pointed out his change in demeanour when he was around Royalty.
A few were disappointed that the Crown Prince didn’t take the opportunity to show Speed around Johor and introduce him to the state’s culture and tradition. Since the internet star said he was just passing through to go to Singapore, there’s wasn’t time to give him a proper tour. Perhaps next time?
