We often hear the phrase “work on the go”, especially for those who frequently travel. Remote working has certainly become the norm for many people nowadays as they can just plug in their laptops at home or anywhere comfortable and work.

With that being said, it’s definitely rare to see anyone working on their laptop in an LRT train for the whole day. Over the weekend, influencer @ivor_xianz posted a video on her TikTok to show what it would be like to work a 9 to 5 shift on an LRT.

The perks of taking the public transport is I can finish my work while I’m heading to my work 😂 working 9-5 at this ‘co-working’ space like digital nomad

The content creator did not specify the LRT station she started her journey but she came prepared by bringing along a portable table to do work on the train as seen in the video shared above. Thankfully, there weren’t many passengers at the time and she managed to find a seat where she wouldn’t get in anyone’s way. At first, the TikToker shared how she got to enjoy the air-conditioned space as well as a different view every time she looked out the window.

“The strangers next to me were starting to feel like my co-workers,” she said. However, at one point during her “shift”, she regretted this decision as sitting in the LRT seat caused her to feel some strain around her neck area due to being in the same position for a few hours. Obviously, passengers are not allowed to eat on the train so the influencer disembarked at Dang Wangi station to have her lunch at a nearby restaurant.

After eating and charging her laptop, Ivor went back to the LRT station to resume work on the train. As time passed by, she complained about her neck pain getting worse and being unable to work during rush hours as it got too crowded. Once her “shift” was done, the public figure got off at the same station she started at the beginning of the video. The entire experience of working on the train cost her less than RM5 (excluding lunch).

The TikTok post went viral with netizens being both impressed and concerned. Some applauded her for her dedication on creating this content while others wondered if it was even legal for her to do this on public transportation. A few criticised Ivor for hogging 3 seats on the train with her bag and portable table.

However, the TikToker said she does not recommend it unless you have a long-lasting battery laptop and a neck brace to avoid straining. If you have all the necessary and recommended equipment, would you work 9 to 5 on a moving train?
