There have been many stories from customers about their unpleasant experiences with their e-hailing drivers. A local woman previously called out and reported a Grab driver for refusing to pick her up because he assumed she was drunk.
It’s not often that we hear from the drivers’ perspective about their experiences but recently, an e-hailing driver shared what he had to deal with when he picked up a foreigner as a customer.
A man who works as an e-hailing driver recently posted a video on the Otai Johor Facebook group showing him furiously confronting a rude and racist customer from Bangladesh. According to the caption, the fare for the ride was RM70 but the customer apparently did not inform the driver that he was RM20 short until they almost reached the destination.
The driver compromised after the foreign man offered to transfer the remainder tomorrow. However, during the ride, the passenger allegedly told the driver to speed up, specifically to 130km/h and even rudely suggested that he should be driving the car instead as the driver refused to follow his instructions.
To make matters worse, the foreigner then started throwing racial slurs at the driver saying, “You Malays always drive so slow. Fuck you, you keling!”. Furious, the driver wrote, “I know I’m dark-skinned but that doesn’t mean you can hurl racial slurs at me.” As seen in the video below, the Johor man threatened to take the customer to the police station.
The video was reposted on Twitter where many netizens praised the driver for calling out the racist foreigner and taking him to the police station. While the driver did not specify where the incident took place, netizens speculated that it happened around Bukit Chedang, Seremban based on the dashcam footage.
At the time of writing, it is currently unknown if the driver actually did take the Bangladeshi man to the police station as there have been no updates following the incident. We hope that the situation did not end with physical violence at the very least.
