We witnessed the debut of AKB48’s first Malaysian sister group, KLP48, in 2024. The group has grown steadily since making their first public appearance at the AKB48 Group Live in KL 2024 “~ First Cry ~” concert. Since then, they have taken part in numerous public events, performing at Japanese cultural festivals and anime-cosplay conventions across Malaysia.
Just last month, the members celebrated their first anniversary with a special concert, “〜BLOOM〜”, at Zepp KL to mark one year since their formation. However, no one expected that one member would already be preparing to graduate from the group this soon.

For context, the term “graduation” in the idol world is used when a member leaves a group. It signifies a positive transition to a new stage in their career or life, rather than a negative dismissal or retirement. Yesterday (Thursday, 18th September), member Lucine posted a video on the official KLP48 Instagram page to announce her graduation, making her the first and only member with the shortest tenure in the group to date.
In the announcement, she described being part of KLP48 as one of the most incredible experiences of her life and expressed gratitude to her fellow members, staff and fans for their unwavering support. “I’ve realised that it’s time for me to move forward, not because I’m running away, but because I want to explore new paths and challenge myself in new ways. This decision is something I’ve thought about carefully over the past months. Let me be clear, I truly love being a part of KLP48, but I also believe that change is part of growing, and I want to keep growing, not just as Lucine, but as myself, Yi Ling,” she explained.
Lucine also revealed that she had personal dreams she had set aside in order to prioritise group activities, but felt that now was the right time to pursue those passions. The official KLP48 Instagram page later confirmed the news, announcing that Lucine’s graduation ceremony will be held soon, giving fans and fellow members the chance to bid her farewell.

Speaking of farewells, several KLP48 members took to their personal social media accounts to dedicate heartfelt messages to Lucine, recalling the moments they had shared together. Cocoa wrote: “Being an idol, I’ve seen many wonderful people graduate before. But since joining KLP48, the very first graduation I’ll be sending off is yours, Lucine. Thank you so much for always leading our group’s dance performances! I’m really, really sad.”
Ann Drea, who revealed that Lucine was the first member she spoke to during their formation, wished her a happy graduation and said she would miss their late-night chats as roommates: “Please, come visit us frequently!”. Suzuha, one of KLP48’s Japanese members, shared: “I feel really sad, and I wish we could stay together forever. But I want to support her dreams. Lucine has contributed so much to KLP48, and it’s because of her that we can be proud of the group we are today. We love you, Lucine, forever 💫.”
