It’s been almost nine years since I.O.I (아이오아이) officially disbanded, marking the end of the first “Produce” project group. However, member Jeon Somi (전소미) recently confirmed that the group will make a comeback in 2026.
The singer was recently in Kuala Lumpur for her “Under The Pink Sky with Jeon Somi” fan sign tour. During the event’s talk session, she shared a few spoilers for the coming year, including I.O.I’s long-awaited return. After breaking into a quick rendition of “Very Very Very” with the fans, Somi confirmed that the group is preparing to make a comeback next year.
I.O.I has previously sparked discussion about a comeback in 2026 to celebrate their 10th anniversary. Earlier this year, news outlets reported that the group would release a new single as a gift for fans. Somi also mentioned that comeback plans were moving in a positive direction, adding that she has cleared her schedule in preparation for group activities.
Somi’s hint at her KL event prompted excitement from fans, many of whom have waited for I.O.I’s comeback for years. It’s worth noting that the group had planned to return to the music scene in 2019. Sadly, their comeback was cancelled due to scheduling conflicts. The group last publicly reunited in 2021 to celebrate their 5th anniversary.
Besides teasing I.O.I’s return, Somi also hinted at a solo comeback. The “Fast Forward” singer said she’s preparing to release a summer track, which suggests that she’ll return to music in mid-2026. She also quipped that she’s ditching her iconic blond locks for a new hairstyle, signifying a fresh start.
