We always love it when Malaysia is mentioned or featured in an international project – whether it’s a film, a TV series or a video game. Speaking of video games, there are a handful that include our beloved country and its people in their stories.
Marvel’s upcoming video game “Wolverine”, set for release in 2026, appears to feature one mission based in Malaysia. Normally, fans would be thrilled by such a revelation – but this time, some are holding back their excitement. Here’s why:

Earlier this week, Marvel Studios and PlayStation released the official gameplay trailer for the upcoming Wolverine video game. Based on the popular Marvel character, the game features an original narrative inspired by his comic book history and other media appearances. It is a standalone entry in Marvel’s “Spider-Man” video game series, set in the same universe and sharing continuity with the previous titles.
In the trailer, Logan/Wolverine is shown fighting enemies across various locations, with one scene appearing to take place in a Malaysian marketplace. Stall signs can be seen written in Chinese and Tamil, along with one in Malay that reads “Rempah Lima Beradik”. This would usually get Malaysian fans excited about the release, and although some are looking forward to it, others suspect that it may not actually be Malaysia but the fictional region of Madripoor.
As explained in a previous article, Madripoor is located off the coast of Indonesia, near Malaysia and Singapore, according to the comics. While this theory seems plausible, a leaked image from two years ago on Reddit showed the beloved mutant studying a map of East Malaysia. The leak fuelled speculation that a Malaysian gaming and animation studio might be involved in the project.

It would not be the first time Malaysian studios have contributed to major video game releases. And since the Wolverine game is set across different parts of the world, it makes sense that the main developer, Insomniac Games, would collaborate with teams from each country to ensure authentic representation.
For now, we’ll just have to wait until next year to see if the location shown in the trailer is indeed Malaysia or Madripoor. What do you think?
