(Video) Influencer Niao Niao Criticised For Mistaking Nasi Lemak For Glutinous Rice

Everyone makes mistakes sometimes. Whether it’s sending someone 60 phones or mistaking one celeb for another, things like these are bound to happen from time to time and there’s simply no avoiding them. Influencers are no exception to this as some have even faced heavy consequences because of their carelessness.

A Chinese influencer known as Niao Niao (鸟鸟) recently posted a video on Facebook where she mistook a Malaysian dish for Chinese glutinous rice. In the video, she had mistaken our Malaysian nasi lemak for a different food, calling it a zongzi (粽子).

As seen in the post, Niao Niao innocently introduced the nasi lemak that she had bought to her viewers as a zongzi. She then proceeded to unwrap the food inside, before getting shocked at the contents of the packet. Instead of the sticky rice of a zongzi, she was greeted by a portion of rice, complete with eggs and sambal.

What made the incident even funnier was the content creator’s reaction to the taste. As we all know, the sambal in nasi lemak tends to be rather explosive on the tongue. Niao Niao’s packet was no different, containing a good amount of spicy flavour. Her reaction to the meal made it an entertaining video.

After the post went viral, some found the mistake amusing, understanding that the influencer hadn’t meant any harm and that it was a simple misunderstanding on her part, as she isn’t local. They found her reaction to the food hilarious and didn’t hold it against her, especially considering how similar a packet of nasi lemak can look to zongzi.

However, not everyone found the situation funny though. Niao Niao faced some criticism from viewers who thought that she should’ve been more careful in spreading information and that the influencer should have done more research.

The internet celeb has since posted an apology video saying that it was an honest mistake on her part. Let’s put aside the misunderstanding and be glad that Niao Niao was willing to be corrected by her viewers, accepting her mistake gracefully. Have you had a similar experience?
