Being a public figure comes with its ups and downs. While you have many fans supporting you, being popular also means you have to give up your privacy. Influencer Khairulaming recently shared his dilemma of being popular and how it affects his travel plans.
Earlier this week, a TikTok account posted a clip from Khairulaming’s recent TikTok livestream, where he talked about what he likes doing when he’s overseas. Surprisingly, the food content creator, known fondly as KA, said he enjoys visiting shopping malls in a foreign country rather than checking out local landmarks. As it turns out, his reason for this is because it’s the only time he can enter a shopping mall in peace.
The public figure, whose real name is Khairul Amin Kamarulzaman, said he often visits shopping malls when overseas because the local shoppers wouldn’t recognise him, allowing him to shop like normal. He added, “I can enter shops normally, I can buy stuff normally, (and) no one will greet me.” Khairulaming said it’s also why grocery shopping is the first thing on his to-do list when he’s in a foreign country,
Khairulaming continued the conversation, revealing the struggles of being a popular content creator. He said that since making a name for himself online over 10 years ago, he no longer has the freedom to shop or walk around in local malls because someone will always recognise him. As such, shopping in foreign countries is the rare chance he has to maintain privacy in public.
While it was merely a sharing sesh about his life, Khairulaming’s revelation sparked mixed reactions from netizens, with many mocking the influencer for exaggerating his popularity. Others quipped that Khairulaming should wear a disguise if he doesn’t want to be recognised. Some even said that they purposely ignore public figures they notice in public, arguing that celebrities should just be treated like normal people.
