Last week, actress Zarina Zainuddin alleged that her maid, who goes by Rahayu, had stolen from her before running away with a man. The 53-year-old claimed that Rahayu ran away after receiving her salary and added this was the second time a helper, whom she hired from the same agency, had flee from her home.
The maid has since received a lot of backlash from the actress’s fans as well as fellow Indonesians who believed she had tarnished the good name of their country. However, yesterday (Monday, 25th March), Ruhaya finally spoke out about the alleged incident and explained the real reason why she ran away. Here’s her story:
Through a (now-deleted) video posted on TikTok, Ruhaya shared the real reason why she had run away from her employer, claiming that one of Zarina Zainuddin’s autistic twin sons had continuously beaten her. “I ran away ’cause I was beaten by her son who has autism, Azil. I have proof of being beaten through photos I took,” she said before showing the photos of her bruises to the camera. The ex-maid, however, did not elaborate on how long the alleged beatings had been happening.
The former employee also denied the claims that she had stolen jewellery before running away and questioned Zarina on why she hadn’t filed a police report immediately after the incident (which she claimed to have happened 6 months ago). “If it was true then why did she wait 6 months to bring up this issue? I’ve only come forward because the allegations made by Zarina were slanderous and have tarnished my good name,” she stated.
Following a few hours of posting her statement, Ruhaya deleted the video but it has since been reposted on other channels. Zarina Zainuddin responded to the maid’s claims, insisting on her son’s innocence and would only hit himself whenever he has a tantrum or is experiencing stress. “If you want to live freely wherever you are, go ahead but don’t go blabbering nonsense, you thief!” she wrote in an Instagram post.
