Many Malaysians hire live-in maids to assist with housework and childcare. Unfortunately, there have been many cases where the maid took advantage of their employer’s kindness and ran off without prior notice, leaving the families they work for stumped.
Actress Zarina Zainuddin recently exposed her maid for running off after only four months of working for the star. Zarina shared the experience through a posting on her Instagram account. According to the 53-year-old, the maid, an Indonesian named Rahayu, ran away to be with a man. In her video, the actress also expressed her anger towards the maid, calling her improper because she wanted to satisfy her sexual desire. Zarina also revealed that the maid ran away after receiving her salary and also stole some of Zarina’s jewellery and clothes.
The maid left her passport at the actress’ home, but Zarina mocked the maid, saying she only needed her phone. The entrepreneur also claimed that she spent over RM10,000 on the application for Rahayu’s working permit, adding to her dissatisfaction. According to the “Seindah Cinta” star, this is the second time a maid has run away from her home. She said her previous maid, hired from the same maid agency, also ran away after a few months of working but didn’t mention the cause of the first instance.
The star’s post received tons of attention from fellow celebrities and fans. Actress Sharifah Shahirah voiced her sympathy towards the celeb’s predicament and actress Nina Juren revealed she had experienced a similar case with her former maid. Many comments also urged Zarina to expose the maid agency, saying they might be complicit in the ordeal. Some Indonesians also criticised Rahayu’s action, saying it has brought shame to the country.
Last year, entrepreneur Dato Sri Vida also experienced a similar case when her maid ran off with a man, even willingly climbing over a barbed wire fence to pursue the male. We hope Zarina will receive compensation for her loss.
