As Ramadan approaches, many food content creators are gearing up to share recipes for breaking fast and Suhoor. However, there are a few recipes online that are going viral for the wrong reasons.

Recently, Malaysian content group GegarGeli shared a recipe video for “Nasi Lemak Cendol”. In the video, the host said the dish is great for Ramadan, revealing that he’ll eat it for iftar next month. The “Nasi Lemak Cendol” calls for a pack of nasi lemak, cendol, sweet corn, red beans, coconut milk and chocolate syrup. The video also demonstrated how to layer each ingredient in a tall glass cup.

After neatly arranging the ingredients, the host mixed up the dish before taking a bite. He also said that the dish would taste better when eaten with friends. The video has since gone viral, accumulating over 400,000 views within the first 22 hours. It’s worth noting that the group is known for their comedic and nonsensical videos, so this recipe isn’t to be taken seriously. Nevertheless, many netizens have shared their reactions to the recipe.

Unsurprisingly, most of the comments expressed disbelief over the recipe. On TikTok, the comments joked about serving the dish during Ramadan, saying, “I don’t think I’d even salivate over this when I’m fasting”. One comment quipped that they felt like crying after seeing the dish. However, some asked the account to create more recipes like this during Ramadan to motivate them to continue fasting.

This isn’t the first nonsense recipe that GegarGeli has shared because they previously posted a recipe for “Kopi Sambal Maggi”. As the name suggests, the dish combines instant noodles with coffee and is topped with spicy sambal sauce. It’s unclear whether the group has more recipes up their sleeves, but they do have a few requests, so maybe we’ll see more from them soon.

Check out their two recipe videos below:
