You’ve probably seen it all over Instagram or TikTok by now, but in case you haven’t, i-City Shah Alam recently introduced its latest attraction: the SkyCity Tower, the first and tallest glass waterslide in Malaysia. The slide stretches over 600 metres in length and loops around, offering a stunning 360° view of the entire town as you travel downwards.

Many have visited i-City to try out this new ride, but one particular video went viral, raising concerns among netizens about its safety. From the post, it appeared as though one of the glass panels from the slide had been cracked. Here’s what actually happened:

Recently, a TikTok user who goes by @/ash_naz912 posted a video on his channel to share his experience of riding the SkyCity Tower slide. Everything appeared normal as the user travelled down the ride, but at one point during the video, netizens noticed a visible line on one of the glass panels on the left side of the slide, with many expressing concerns about whether it was cracked or shattered.

As a result, netizens began questioning the attraction’s durability and safety. Thankfully, i-City management was informed about the issue and investigated the matter. According to their official TikTok post, the “cracked line” that appeared in the viral video was actually one of the lighting cables on the slide, as the ride also lights up at night. “No cracks—just the wire cable effect! 💡 The Longest Glass Slide at SkyCity is perfectly safe and ready for your thrilling adventure,” the caption reads.

Netizens have since thanked i-City Malaysia for quickly addressing concerns about the slide’s safety. Some joked that they blamed the “Final Destination” franchise for causing generations of people to be paranoid, while others, who claimed to work in glass factories, reassured everyone that the type of glass used for amusement park rides is very durable and won’t be easily cracked.

Some expressed that they’d still be too afraid to try it because of their fear of heights. Whatever the case, it’s reassuring that i-City has confirmed their latest attraction is safe for thrill-seekers. Have you tried the SkyCity Tower yet?
