Hong Kong YouTuber, Jerson (Jer仔), has been on YouTube since 2019 and has been sharing weekly videos about his everyday life.

1. Minority Use Public Transport

Jerson found out that most Malaysians prefer driving vehicles over taking public transport. Through his observations, he concluded there are two main reason contributing to this fact. The cheap cost of maintaining a car in Malaysia and the rules and system of public transports being under-developed are the two primary reasons.

2. Low Percentage of Drunk Driving Incidents

According to Zutobi’s article on The World’s Safest Roads, Malaysia has a 0.1% rate of alcohol related road traffic deaths. Jerson went on to explain this is because 60% of the Malaysian are Muslims and they are not allowed to drink alcohol.

3. Malaysians honk very little

Compared to traffic in Hong Kong, Jerson mentioned that Malaysians do not like honking at other people on the road. Based on his personal experiences, drivers in Malaysia will not honk on purpose.

4. Huge Amount of Motorbikes

A lot of motorbikes can be seen on the road. So, he informed those driving to be really careful on the road.

5. Interesting Ways of Parking

In Hong Kong, people there would normally reverse park; you’ll be judged if you park your car any other way. However, in Malaysia, people use both reverse parking and forward parking.

6. Discounts on Traffic Fines

On one occasion, Jerson shared that when he was paying off a ticket at the police station, the police officer told him to go to another counter for discounts. That left him dumbfounded. Later, he check online and found out that there’s discounts given on traffic tickets during certain periods.

7. Uneven Roads

Because of the many potholes or pits, it will a bumpy ride whenever one drives on Malaysian roads.

8. Being Asked for Money or Being Sold Items When Stopping The Car

The YouTuber shared that someone will knock on the car’s window to ask for money or sell items when you stop your car at the junction, for example.

9. Traffic Jams Caused by Curiousity

Jerson noticed that whenever there’s an accident happening on the opposite lane, the lane which should not be affected will experience a traffic jam as well. He realises that some Malaysians are very curious people (or plain busybody) and want to know what’s happening on the opposite lane, so they slow down to check what’s going on.

10. Ladies’ Parking

It does not apply in every carpark in Malaysia, but in certain carparks, there’re specific areas reserved just for females.

After watching Jerson’s videos, many netizens from Malaysia agreed with the interesting facts Jerson have shared. “As a Malaysian, I can confirm that everything Jerson are true.” “I support that you’re telling the truth. Malaysia hope that foreign friends can speak up, so the government can know that they really need to improve!”
