Celebrities often travel with staff and bodyguards to protect them from overzealous fans who get too close for comfort. Recently, a fan stumbled upon Hong Kong actor Tony Leung (梁朝偉) while in Japan – but his circle of staff earns contrasting reactions from netizens.
A XiaoHongShu user recently posted a video with the captions, “I met Tony Leung in Tokyo. On a small street in Ginza, a group of people walk towards us, holding umbrellas for someone. It seemed like a big deal. Then, I looked over and saw Tony Leung!”. The user also noted that the star and his entourage entered a barbecue restaurant.
The video posted showed Tony walking on a street in Tokyo on a rainy day, surrounded by a group of staff, who all held up umbrellas for the veteran star. In the video, Tony was talking to a woman, whom some netizens claimed was a director. If you’re wondering, the 62-year-old is currently in Japan for the Tokyo International Film Festival to serve as the jury president for the festival’s main competition.
The video received mixed reactions from netizens, with many saying the number of employees assigned to one star seemed excessive. Some even noted that the scene was too eye-catching. However, some fans defended Tony, saying it’s understandable for all the staff to walk together as they are all likely working together for the film festival.
Funnily enough, a few comments pointed out one detail of the video which seemed to tickle netizens. Some noted that despite having several umbrellas held up, Tony still appeared to have gotten hit by the rain through the gaps between the umbrellas. Others said the actor would’ve been more dry if he had held his umbrella.
