Several celebrities have shared their experiences with the otherworld, revealing how they’ve stumbled upon spirits or been haunted by them. Hong Kong actress Ellen Chan Nga Lun (陳雅倫) is one of those stars who has been haunted by an apparition—but her ghostly companion just so happens to be someone famous.
The actress recently appeared on the talk show ‘You Are Not Alone (直播灵接触)”, which discusses the topic of the spiritual connections. Ellen spoke about her experience with a ghost, which she claimed haunted her for decades. Shockingly, she also claimed the ghost was the spirit of the late Hong Kong star Paul Chung (鍾保羅). Paul was a singer and actor active in the 1980s and was best known for appearing in youth dramas alongside Leslie Cheung (张国荣) and Danny Chan (陈百强). Sadly, Paul died in 1989 at the age of 30 after falling from the 26th floor of his apartment building.
Ellen said a spiritual master once told her she was being followed by Paul’s ghost, but the actress brushed it off. However, sometime later, she would experience her first “meeting” with Paul during a trip to Macau. Ellen said during a meeting with a fortune-teller, the man suddenly changed his expression and muttered, “You know me. My last name is Chung,” which left the actress understandably spooked. She also said she once heard a male voice gently calling out to her in the middle of the night, saying, “Ellen, I miss you so much”.
During the show, actress-turned-psychic Iva Law (罗泳娴) revealed why Paul’s spirit has haunted Ellen for years. According to Iva, the late star has been “following” Ellen to protect her, knowing that her beauty and temperament would attract other male ghosts. However, the psychic said Paul isn’t always haunting the 58-year-old and would only occasionally visit her. Iva also tried to uncover the real reason for Paul’s death, suggesting that his depression drove him to end his life.
Interestingly, there were rumours that Paul has haunted other individuals, including his old apartment unit. Perhaps Iva’s reading would bring Ellen peace after all these years and give Paul the voice he’s been seeking.
