It’s not easy to find a good job with a decent salary, but not impossible, of course. Many people have also chosen to move abroad for better opportunities, while others sometimes resort to working multiple jobs to earn a living. This man from Fujian, China, has fortunately been doing well since moving to Singapore.
However, no one expected that he would earn more than RM30,000 a month working in a restaurant. What exactly does he do? Is it possible for anyone to apply for this position? Let’s find out.

Earlier this week, content creator Xavier Chen posted a video on Instagram showing him approaching a man outside Singapore Plaza. Similar to other street interview videos you might find on social media, the host asked the man how much he earns monthly, to which he replied that it’s around SGD$10,000 (approximately RM33,000).
The influencer noticed his Haidilao name tag and asked if he could showcase a day in his work life. As they made their way to the restaurant, located at Dhoby Ghaut, the staff member, known as Ronghui, explained that he has been in the country for about 20 years and has worked at the Haidilao restaurant for 6 years. When asked about his exact position, he revealed that he is a trainee manager. His role is similar to that of the store manager, except he focuses more on taking care of his colleagues, while also serving customers.

While demonstrating his work routine, Ronghui explained that he has worked at Haidilao for a long time to earn the promotion to his current position. When asked if staff receive a special discount on meals at the restaurant, the trainee manager explained that all staff get 50% off for every order. He even shared that one of the most challenging experiences was when a customer requested that the employee remove the seeds from a dragonfruit.
The video has reached over 902k views on Instagram at the time of writing and netizens were curious to know more about this position and salary. Some were skeptical about Xavier’s video, wondering if the content was real or scripted. Others were not convinced by the RM33,000 salary, as most people working in similar positions do not earn that much.

As seen in the screenshot above, Xavier clarified that the manager’s salary is based on several factors, including store location, specialised role, and extensive working hours. Haidilao responded to media inquiries about the video, providing a similar answer while adding that the video “should not be seen as representative of the average income”.
While Ronghui’s case is an exception, would you still consider working at Haidilao for the possibility of earning as much as he does one day? Let us know.
