Hong Kong actress Grace Chan (陳凱琳) is known to be a devoted mother to her three boys. So, it’s no surprise she got defensive when an unknown woman doused one of her sons after a dispute in a cinema.
Earlier this week, a post on social media went viral, alleging that a woman had splashed Grace’s six-year-old son with a cream-like substance after a dispute over the boy’s unruly behaviour. According to reports, the actress took all three of her sons to a screening of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” on 30th July (Thursday). However, during the screening, the boys were allegedly disturbing the other moviegoers by talking loudly and squealing.
It’s said that Grace had tried to calm her boys down, but to no avail. At one point, her six-year-old accidentally kicked the seat of the woman seated in front of him out of excitement. Grace quickly apologised to the woman for her son’s action. However, after the movie ended, the woman allegedly confronted the family before pouring the cream-like liquid over the child’s head and leaving the hall.
In a recent interview, Grace spoke about the incident, confirming that she filed a police report against the unidentified woman. She also expressed regret for not being able to protect her son during the incident, adding that her son was frightened after being splashed with the unknown liquid. Thankfully, another mother at the cinema immediately came to help the family by offering tissues.
At the same time, Grace also apologised for her children’s behaviour that led to the incident. Grace said she and her husband, actor Kevin Cheng (鄭嘉穎), will continue to remind their children to be more considerate and respectful of others while in public spaces. However, she also urged others to be understanding and to show kindness towards younger children. She said, “My son is only six years old. He’s a very innocent child, so seeing him hurt like this was heartbreaking.”
Police have classified the case as common assault and are now searching for the woman, described as a Chinese national. We hope Grace and her family can find the woman and settle this issue amicably. What are your thoughts on this?
