Working as a food delivery rider is not easy. Some have to brave challenging weather while others had to deal with rude customers. While this recent incident may not be one of the more extreme cases, how would a rider react if they were tasked with picking up an order and delivering it to a customer within the same building?

Earlier this week, a Grab rider named Arif Aiman posted a video on his TikTok channel detailing his recent experience delivering food to a customer. In the video, the content creator, who frequently posts vlogs about his job, picked up an order at a Bask Bear outlet in Alamanda Shopping Centre. Initially, he was baffled by a simple chicken katsu dish costing RM18, but what was even more perplexing was that the order was made from someone inside the same mall he picked up the food from.

He made his journey to the customer inside the building. “Why didn’t this person just buy it himself? It’s just 50 metres away. This is actually the first time I delivered an order by foot,” he said while walking to the destination. Although he was confused by the situation, he found it humorous, as he didn’t need to travel far to complete the delivery. The Grab rider later discovered that the customer was the only staff member working at a HONOR phone store at the time, which made it impossible for him to leave the premises to order food himself.

Rather than being upset by the situation, Arif encourages everyone to order food from a short distance to make it convenient for food delivery riders. The TikTok post instantly went viral with over 1.3 million views, making this his most-viewed video on his channel this month. Netizens on TikTok and Twitter reacted to the vlog, with many sharing similar experiences. Some noted that riders’ reactions to delivering food within the same building could vary; while some wouldn’t mind, others may be less understanding.

Some netizens claimed that ordering through the app can cost less than physically ordering at the store as they can make use e-vouchers and promo codes. Have you done something similar to the HONOR staff in the video?
