Amidst the ongoing genocide in Palestine, many celebrities have refrained from speaking out on the issue, likely out of concern for their career. However, the general notion is that stars who seemed supportive of Israel often receive backlash.
On 22nd September 2025 (Monday), GOT7 (갓세븐) member Jinyoung (진영) celebrated his 31st birthday with a live broadcast. During the livestream, the singer read a few comments from fans, which oftentimes also included a request. However, Jinyoung would later spark outrage after reading aloud a comment from a fan in Israel. The comment had requested the star for an air kiss, to which he obliged.
The interaction lasted only a few seconds, but clips of the moment have since gone viral, sparking heated discussion. Understandably, fans were upset and disappointed with Jinyoung. Many lamented his decision to read aloud the comment and mention the fan’s origin amid the current political climate. Some also argued that his action was ignorant and disrespectful of those facing genocide in Palestine.
While many blasted the star for the interaction, some defended Jinyoung. They brought up his recent KRW100 million (approximately RM301,000) donation to Save The Children, a non-profit humanitarian organisation with emergency projects in Gaza. However, many argued that his interaction with the fan was still disappointing as it contradicted his donation, given that many Palestinian children lost their lives to the ongoing genocide.
