(Video) French TikToker Apologises For Mimicking “The King Of Kelantan”

Have you heard of Alwin GC? If you scroll through TikTok often, you’ve probably seen his videos pop up on your “For You” page. The TikToker is a well-known French traveller, who travels all over the world to share his experiences through short TikTok videos. For the last two months, he has been going all around Malaysia, shinning the spotlight on the smaller cities and their charms.

Just recently, the TikToker uploaded a video apologising for the content of his previous video that supposedly offended a lot of people. The controversial video was of him pretending to be the King of Kelantan, waving to an empty crowd on a large balcony. The video was taken down not long after negative comments flooded the video’s comments section.

“If you are one of [the people] who got offended, I sincerely apologise about it because I had no idea that it was a sensitive topic – to talk about the King.” the TikToker said. He added that he is aware of these cultural things because it happened to him once before back in Ipoh, when he talked over the Azan (call to prayer).

“I think it’s very important to clarify. This is also something that happens when you do travel a lot and [experience] these cultures. And (this is) something that I’m learning right now because a lot of people watch my videos. And sometimes I don’t realise (if I crossed the line),” the content creator added.

Scrolling through his TikTok comments, most netizens accepted his apology and thanked him for his effort in acknowledging Malaysia’s customs. Many of them also made jokes to lighten the heated incident. The TikToker ended his video by saying that he would pay more attention to these things in his upcoming videos.
