Since the tragedy in Palestine intensified last year, many have been boycotting McDonald’s and other global brands to show their support for the country’s liberation. However, some people have taken the boycott to the extreme and started harassing those who could not join the boycott for personal reasons.
While we can’t be too sure what exactly happened here, a fight did break out at a McDonald’s outlet that led some to suspect that it had something to do with the ongoing boycott. Earlier today (Tuesday, 6th February), a video was posted on the @/MALAYSIAVIRALLL Twitter page of a violent incident that took place outside of an unspecified McDonald’s outlet.
As seen in the video above, a fight broke out between a customer and several staff members. The physical altercation attracted the attention of many passersby who were all standing at the side watching as the other employees tried to break off the fight between the two parties. As for the reason why or how the brawl started, the uploader gave no context to the video.
Regardless, the post went viral and netizens gave their thoughts on the fight that broke out. Many were amused and made jokes about the situation while others were genuinely curious as to what exactly happened. Some speculated that the fight happened because the customer provoked the staff, possibly criticising them for still working at the boycotted establishment.
One netizen came forward and claimed that the incident happened at the Bukit Bintang outlet. The customer who was involved in the fight was said to be a foreigner who had been harassing the staff members there. Unfortunately, there was no update as to what happened next.
If this is true then we hope that a police report has been filed against the customer so that he’ll leave the staff members alone.
Update (7th February)
It has now been confirmed that the fight did take place at the McD Bukit Bintang outlet. Dang Wangi police chief Noor Dellhan Yahaya told reporters that the brawl broke out because a foreign customer allegedly harassed the female manager. Police arrested 5 individuals and they are currently being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.
