When fans have the rare opportunity to meet their idols in person, they’re expected to maintain boundaries. Unfortunately, a recent incident involving South Korean actor Ji Changwook (지창욱) sparked outrage for an overzealous fan.
Last week, the actor was in Paris, France, attending the Tom Ford show at Paris Fashion Week 2025. Over the weekend, a video emerged on social media, showing Ji Changwook with a group of fans. To show his gratitude to his fans for taking the time to see him, the actor greeted them up close, and he even hugged a few of them. However, it was one fan’s interaction with him that many felt went too far.
As shown in the video, the female fan, believed to be a French native, was seen asking the star for an autograph. She would then pull Ji Changwook into a hug, during which she kissed him on the cheek. After pulling away, the fan would try to kiss the actor again, but the star appeared to avoid her. Meanwhile, a bodyguard stood in front of the two, but didn’t intervene. Ji Changwook would then hug another fan before getting into a car and leaving the scene.
While Ji Changwook maintained a professional demeanour during the incident, many fans were outraged by the woman’s action. On social media, many lamented that it was inappropriate and even equated the act to harassment, as the actor looked uncomfortable. While some noted that the incident was likely the result of cultural differences, others said the woman should’ve respected Ji Changwook’s Korean background and maintained boundaries.
As of now, Ji Changwook’s agency has yet to make a statement on this incident, so they’re likely letting the issue run its course. Nevertheless, fans are urging his staff and security team to be more vigilant when it comes to public appearances, saying they shouldn’t be so lax just because they’re in a foreign country. Some even urged the fans to be respectful and not cross the line when interacting with the star.
The actor is still in Paris, but no similar incident has happened since. While it’s unconfirmed, it’s likely his team is bumping up the security level.
