Last month, we got our first look at BLACKPINK’s Lisa (리사) in her acting debut for the upcoming season of “The White Lotus”, which takes place in Thailand. Initial reports suggested she would be playing a resort manager named Mook. However, following the release of the new trailer, there have been speculations that her character could instead be a health mentor to the guests, based on a reply from the official “The White Lotus” Instagram account.

Regardless, fans are eager to learn more about her mysterious role when the new season premieres in February 2025. While most are excited to see the idol on screen, some have criticised one of the costumes she wore and even accused her of cultural appropriation. Here’s why:

At one point during the latest “The White Lotus” trailer, Lisa was seen wearing traditional Thai attire, possibly performing for the resort guests in one of the episodes. As shown in the screenshots, Twitter users were quick to call her out, accusing the rapper of appropriating Thai culture. However, what they failed to realise is that the BLACKPINK member is Thai herself and that the new season of the show is set in her home country.

Thankfully for the K-pop artist, many of her fans came to her defense, reminding everyone of her nationality and how she has always been proud to represent her people and country. Some suggested that the users who made the accusations against the dancer might simply be trying to bait anger in order to gain engagement for their posts.

Others simply ignored the rage baiters and instead expressed excitement for the new season and Lisa’s acting debut. We don’t know about you but we’ll definitely be tuning in. “The White Lotus” Season 3 will premiere on 17th February 2025 (Malaysian Time) on HBO and MAX. Will you be watching?
