No one said raising children would be a breeze, but parents should know to keep a close eye on their little ones. Unfortunately, many have been seen neglecting their kids and letting them wander unsupervised.

Recently, dashcam footage from a driver in Jalan Melaka Pindah, Alor Gajah went viral on social media, showing a driver narrowly hitting a 2-year-old toddler crossing the street by herself. In the 3-minute video, the driver hit the brakes right before hitting the child. Other motorists stopped to inspect the situation and the child was promptly picked up and returned to the mother.

The incident reportedly took place near Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Melaka Pindah at 6:15 AM. It is understood that the driver’s car suffered a hit from the back following the sudden brake. According to authorities, the mother was unaware that her toddler had left the car as she was preoccupied with her other child. The mother was taken to the police station after the incident and may receive punishment for negligence.

Many netizens have reacted to the dashcam footage, expressing shock towards the incident and disappointment towards the mother’s carelessness. Many slammed the mother for not utilising the child safety lock system in the car and not placing the toddler in a child’s car seat. Many also praised the driver’s quick response and the other motorists at the scene for reacting calmly following the incident. Some also advised the affected motorists to get compensation from the parents for the damages.

We hope this incident will remind the mother – and other parents – to be vigilant of their children.
