A TikTok video of Azwan Ali or Diva AA performing an Arabic dangdut-style dance on the stage of “Karnival Fiesta Raya Baling 2024” went viral over the weekend. It was said that the performance violated local authority guidelines and was deemed inappropriate during this month of Ramadan. The organisers then quickly apologised to all parties, especially the people of Kedah for the controversy.

According to Harian Metro, Maju Kedah Resources, in a statement, expressed that the celebrity dangdut dance performance, featuring Diva AA and several men on stage, was unexpected as it was not part of the programme. They also explained that the presence of the celebrity was upon the invitation of his Tiktokers’ friend, Diva BB, who was also participating in the “Fiesta Raya Baling”.

“Referring to the viral video of Diva AA dancing onstage of the recent ‘Fiesta Raya Baling’, on behalf of the organisers of the “Fiesta Raya Baling 2024”, we sincerely apologised for the issue,” they stated. “The incident took us by surprise as initially we thought it was just a stage joke made by the celebrity, as he was not on the official invite list. Our committee is very sorry for what happened and once again extends our apologies to all parties affected by the issue,” they added.

Following the incident, Fiesta Raya Baling Committee received a reprimand from the Bayu State Assemblyman, Mohd Taufik Yaacob, and as a result, decided to close the “Fiesta Raya Baling 2024” event in response to their responsibility regarding the incident. “As the organiser, we accept this responsibility and have decided to immediately cease the organisation of the “Fiesta Raya Baling 2024” event. “Our last operating day will be on Saturday,” they concluded.

As for Diva AA himself, the celebrity doesn’t seem to think that it was his or his friends’ fault that the event came to a halt. In a (possibly deleted) Facebook post, the 58-year-old reprimanded the organisers upfront. Here’s what he said:
