Christmas is meant to be a joyous occasion celebrated with friends and family. While most people had a jolly holiday over the long weekend, this man, unfortunately, got injured due to an accident at a local mall.

Yesterday (Monday, 25th December) a Singaporean family were spending the holiday together at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur when suddenly, one of the suspended Christmas decorations fell on top of one of them. Here’s what happened:

If you’ve visited Pavilion KL throughout the whole month then you’ve probably noticed the suspended Christmas trees at the centre court. The victim, Julius Lee, was taking photos of his family when suddenly, one of the branches from the tree fell off and hit him on his head.

His wife Aileen and their children were left unharmed and thankfully, the Singaporean man only suffered minor injuries from the incident. Pavilion staff quickly attended to the victim and removed the festive decoration. Julius then received immediate medical attention from the mall’s management team.

Shortly after the incident went viral, Pavilion KL issued an official statement on their Facebook page to address the situation. “We express regret for an incident that took place at noon today in which a Christmas tree branch fell and made contact with a shopper passing by. The shopper had a minor graze and appreciated the prompt action from the management,” they wrote.

The management also reassured that they had cordoned off the area of the incident and would conduct a thorough check on the decorations to ensure everyone’s safety. “Rest assured Pavilion KL will continue to take all precautionary measures to ensure shoppers enjoy the year-end festivity with peace of mind as safety and security remain our utmost priority”.

As seen from the screenshots below, some netizens appreciated Pavilion’s swift action while others criticised them for reusing decorations as the quality may have deteriorated over time. Those on Twitter urged Julius to file a police report and sue the mall for what happened.

We’re glad that the man was not badly injured from the accident and his family were left unharmed. Hopefully, nothing like this will happen again in the future.
