Many celebrities have expressed disdain for obsessive fans, lamenting the constant harassment they face. Recently, Chinese singer-actor Liu Yining (刘宇宁) sparked conversation with his candid reaction to stalkers who called him during a livestream.
Earlier this week, the actor held a livestream on his Weibo account to chat with fans. However, during the broadcast, Liu Yining began receiving phone calls believed to be from a stalker. The actor refused to answer the calls, even saying, “Answering the phone would be indulging in this person’s bad habit. They have no right to talk to me because they don’t respect me.”

Liu Yining then began lamenting about the harassment he’s endured from stalkers. The 35-year-old said that obsessive fans have followed him everywhere, even to the gym and recording studio, making him uncomfortable. Fed up with the harassment, the actor said, “There’s a limit to how people interact. If you cross that line, it becomes very annoying.”
Sympatising with Liu Yining’s frustration, some fans in the livestream comments urged the star to expose the phone numbers of the stalkers calling him. However, the public figure refused to do so, arguing that it could lead to the individual getting cyberbullied. The move earned Liu Yining praise for still respecting stalkers despite being the subject of harassment himself.

Liu Yining isn’t the only Chinese star who has to endure harassment and invasion of his privacy. Some fans even lamented that the issue of obsessive fans stalking celebrities and invading their privacy has gotten worse in recent years. Some stars even had to deal with individuals dangerously chasing their cars down roads, leading to potential accidents.
Sadly, it’s unlikely that Liu Yining’s public callout will deter his stalkers and obsessive fans. We hope that agencies and authorities can help combat this harassment. Here’s a look at what happened during the livestream:
