A boycott campaign exists when members of the public disagrees or are against what was done or said by a company. The goal is to bring the people or organisation down so they won’t cause any further harm to others. We’ve seen quite a few boycott campaigns already in the past year.

Fashion brand Balenciaga was in hot waters over their BDSM and pedophilia campaign where many responded by boycotting and returning their products to their nearest outlets. With the recent issue of burning the Holy Quran in Europe, especially in Sweden, Caprice is proposing the idea of boycotting products that originated from the country.

For context, recently, there was an incident involving a far-right Swedish politician burning the Quran in front of Turkey’s embassy in the Swedish capital. The demonstration sparked outrage among Muslims worldwide and was even condemned by Sweden’s Prime Minister who said that it was, “a deeply disrespectful act”.

Malaysian rapper and entrepreneur Caprice is never one to stay silent on a matter he finds important, especially when it comes to religion. The “Lai Lah” artist responded to the viral video of the offensive demonstration by calling all Malaysians to boycott Swedish products and brands such as IKEA and H&M. To protest, the father-of-one started cutting an H&M shirt with a pair of scissors.

“Boycott H&M! Stop going to H&M! Stop going to IKEA! F IKEA! F THE MEATBALLS” he screamed while angrily tearing the shirt apart. The 34-year-old’s post garnered a lot of attention from Malaysians but not everyone agree with his approach to boycotting Swedish brands. While everyone agreed that the politician’s actions were wrong, some felt that boycotting the two companies is pointless as they had nothing to do with the incident.

Many, including fellow rapper Sonaone, believe that boycotting IKEA and H&M would result in many Malaysians losing their job. Netizens on Twitter felt that Caprice was also being wasteful by damaging the shirt and mocked him for his approach to boycott.
