There will come a time in every parent’s life when their teenage kids would want to explore new (and sometimes concerning) things. It’s how they discover who they are as a person; their sexual and gender identity. It’s also normal for parents to be worried about their children trying things that might bring them harm or judgment from others. No parent wants to see their children get hurt.

Dato Seri Vida may be many things but she’s first and foremost a mother to her children. Being an unapologetic celeb herself, it’s no surprise her daughter Cik B is following her footsteps in expressing herself the way she wants to. After some criticism from netizens about her new haircut and fashion style, here’s what the millionaire had to say:

Recently, Dato Seri Vida’s daughter, Cik B (real name Nur Edlynn Zamileen) sported a new short hairdo which can be seen in the set of photos above. The curly-haired side buzz cut became the talk of netizens as they believe it made the teenage celeb look more like a boy rather than a girl, especially with her current tomboy-ish fashion style. Her mother, obviously, came to her defense.

The 51-year-old posted a video on her Instagram of her and Cik B taking a stroll outdoors with a caption that reads, “Give Cik B some space. Let her explore her youth and do whatever she wants.” The video showed the two smiling and laughing together with the “Mega Raya” singer ruffling her daughter’s new haircut.

In the caption, the Malaysian entrepreneur added that her daughter did not grow up like everyone else as she started her own brand and business at a young age. While the businesswoman is very supportive of Cik B and gives her the freedom to explore and express herself, netizens do not seem to agree. Many are against the teenage celeb looking like a boy saying it is forbidden in Islam.

It could be a phase or it could be exactly how Cik B has always wanted to express herself. Regardless of whatever gender Cik B identifies as, it’s reassuring to know that her mother always has her back. What do you think? Should Dato Vida give her children all this freedom to explore their sexual and gender identities?
