While having your privacy invaded is not unusual as an idol, it still should not be normalised. Many have shared their horror stories of obsessed fans, or ‘sasaengs’ as they are known in Korea, breaking into their hotel rooms or even their homes, traumatising the artists.

BLACKPINK’s Lisa (리사) has, unfortunately, experienced this as well. During a recent interview, the rapper shared her first encounter with a sasaeng who attempted to get close to her. Here’s her story:

Lisa appeared as a guest on the latest episode of the “Most Exclusive Talk Ever in Thailand” podcast. At one point during the episode, the host asked the idol about an experience that caused her significant anxiety as a superstar. The “Born Again” songstress then opened up about a sasaeng who showed up at her house.

“It was last year. I had heard so many stories from mostly my male idol friends, but it was the first time I experienced it. When I arrived home in the evening after my flight, there was someone standing outside my house,” she said. The BLACKPINK member, worried for her safety, suggested to the fan that they meet somewhere public at another time.

Thankfully, nothing happened, but she checked her CCTV to ensure no one had entered her home that night. However, the encounter didn’t end there, as presumably the same person tried to get into her taxi when she was about to leave for dance rehearsals, leaving her traumatised.

Lisa explained that since that experience, she would always try to have someone from her team to accompany her wherever she goes, but of course, that’s not always possible. “I’ve yet to find a solution to the problem, and I’m still stressing about it. It didn’t just happen in Korea, I had a similar experience at my house in LA as well,” she said before adding she doesn’t feel 100% safe or relaxed whenever she’s in public.

Despite the scary experience, the idol clarified that she still adores her fans and believes that they would never harm her. “I recognise my fans. I remember them, so I always feel safe around them. But if I meet someone for the first time, I’d have my guard up,” she stated.
