When owning an F&B business, companies should always prioritise hygiene and food safety. Unfortunately, chain restaurant Ayam Gepuk Pak Gembus’s alleged lapse regarding these issues has prompted major backlash online.

TikTok user Puteri Najihah recently shared a video complaining about her order from a Pak Gembus outlet. In her video, the user shared that she placed an online order from the brand’s Putra Heights outlet and the meal was delivered via FoodPanda. Unfortunately, when she received her order, Puteri found food scraps and rubbish in the same plastic bag her food was in.

Puteri slammed the food chain in her captions, writing, “How can there be chicken scraps that someone else has eaten? If you guys are doing this to me, what about your other customers?”. The TikToker also criticised FoodPanda’s customer service, arguing that their RM3 refund voucher was inadequate. In a follow-up post, Puteri revealed that Pak Gembus has reached out, but hasn’t issued her a full refund.

Puteri’s video has gone viral, amassing over 300,000 views on TikTok alone. Many netizens have commented on the issue, mostly grossed out by the situation. Others lamented that they’ve long stopped ordering from the brand because many outlets allegedly don’t maintain restaurant hygiene and safety. Some even shared their personal experiences with what they claim were unhygienic Pak Gembus staff and dirty premises.

The TikTok user isn’t the only person who highlighted Pak Gembus outlets’ lack of hygiene. Last year, singer Shila Amzah exposed the chain’s Cyberjaya outlet’s employee for eating while packing an order. In her Twitter post, the star wrote, “The staff who packed the order was eating fried cabbage, chicken gizzard and tempe with the same hand he used to package our orders. And he was snacking from the food container meant for customers’ orders.”.

Pak Gembus has yet to make a public comment on the issue. However, given the shocking number of complaints about the brand, we hope they’ll take heed.
