Whenever a foreigner posts about their travels in Malaysia, locals often find the content amusing—especially if tourists praise our country. That said, Malaysians are also known for their sense of humour, which can be rather confusing for travel influencers when they read the comments section.
English content creator Micky Gryllz is currently exploring different parts of Malaysia. During his recent visit to Langkawi with his son, he asked his viewers about potential sharks in the ocean. What he probably didn’t expect was the response he received from the locals here.

In one of his recent videos on TikTok, Micky was curious to know if there are any sharks in Malaysia as his son Leo wanted to swim further into the ocean but was concerned for his safety. “If anyone knows, please give us a heads-up but it’ll most likely be too late as this video won’t be going up until a bit later. Still, we’d like to know where are the sharks in Malaysia,” he said in the video.
Malaysians flooded the comments section to answer his questions about the sea animal, but sadly (or perhaps not) for him, most netizens did not take the situation seriously. As seen in the screenshots, many sarcastically claimed that there are no sharks in the ocean in Malaysia, but there are plenty on land—referring to loan sharks. Others told Micky about the Red Shark or “Jerung Merah”, which turns out to be the song title for Beby Acha’s 2021 single. One of the comments that stood out was: “We have sharks, but they don’t like Malik,” a quote from the film KL Gangster.

Thankfully for the traveller, there were those who answered his question seriously and even warned him that he should be worried about the saltwater crocodiles rather than the sharks. It seems Micky had a laugh at the comments, as he was seen responding to some of them. Micky was left with another: Where had his shoes gone?
In one of his latest posts on TikTok, the UK tourist claimed that his shoes had been stolen by a group of men in the night, leaving him with no choice but to walk back to buy a new pair. While he didn’t seem to be bothered by the experience, let’s hope that he’ll enjoy the rest of his trip here.
