Usually, animal lovers would typically adopt cats, dogs, rabbits, or even hamsters as pets. There’s only a handful of people who would go for more exotic creatures such as snakes, iguanas, or any type of reptile.

But would it be possible for one to own and raise crocodiles and other large reptiles in the comfort of their own home? Netizens were definitely asking this question after an entrepreneur posted a video of him showing off his pets. Watch:

A couple of days ago, entrepreneur Khairul Johari posted a video of his wife bringing home food to feed their beloved pets. What netizens did not expect was those pets turned out to be exotic wild animals. Among those pets were 6 crocodiles, a Black Dragon Asian water monitor lizard, a Komodo Dragon, and an Arapaima fish. In the video posted, he demonstrated how he feeds raw chicken to his reptiles.

Netizens were also surprised at how calm the business owner was throughout the whole video as he introduced a few of his beloved creatures. After the video went viral, many were curious and also concerned about domesticating these wild animals at home. Those on TikTok wanted to know if one would require a permit or license in raising these animals at home while netizens on Twitter were concerned about the living conditions shown in the video.

According to the Department of Wildlife and National Parks Peninsular Malaysia (Perhilitan), keeping crocodiles at home is legal depending on the species. They also clarified that the environment for the reptiles to live in must fit the criteria, otherwise, the permit will not be granted. As stated in Perhilitan’s guideline, the enclosures must be at an appropriate size for the animal to move freely, and not cause them any stress. Interaction with the critters must also not be forced or cause them trauma.

The process may be tedious but that’s also to ensure that the owner will take good care of the animals they wish to keep. Apart from preparing a suitable environment and obtaining a permit, one must also be knowledgeable about the animals’ behaviour as they are still considered wild.

If you wish to know more about obtaining this permit and which species of animals are allowed for you to keep as pets, you can visit Perhilitan’s official website.
